Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) Awards Three-Year Accreditation To Quabbin Valley Healthcare

Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol’s premier skilled nursing center, has been certified by CARF for its excellence in service to their residents, staff, their level of professionalism, and excellent patient outcomes. QVHS is the only skilled nursing and post-acute care center in the region with such accreditation.

CARF is an independent, non-profit organization whose mission is to advance the quality of services received by residents and patients through the promotion of industry best practices. CARF accreditation is official recognition that Quabbin Valley Healthcare is guided by internationally recognized service standards and best practices in the industry. This accreditation demonstrates that Quabbin Valley Healthcare has opened its service delivery and business processes to outside scrutiny and is a public statement that it strives to ensure that our services are of the highest possible quality.

Representative Whipps Lee took time out of her schedule to stop by Quabbin Valley to meet with staff, residents, and family members to offer her congratulations and recognize Quabbin Valley’s quality care and commitment to the greater Athol community. Whipps Lee stated “I am so proud of Quabbin Valley’s new accreditation and even more impressed at what I saw happening at Quabbin Valley. The staff is engaged, dedicated, and committed to the people they serve, and the environment is among the best in the area—it’s evident they deserve this recognition. I am so pleased to have been a part of this announcement and know that QVHC deserves this honor.”

“We can’t understate the importance of this accreditation”, Diane O’Brien, Quabbin Valley’s Executive Director, stated “it demonstrates to our customers, residents, patients, family members, and staff, that we are committed to reducing risk, addressing health and safety, respecting cultural and individual preferences, and provide the best possible quality of care. QVHC demonstrates that we have a specific commitment to put the needs of our residents and patients at the center of everything we do.” O’Brien went on to say that Quabbin Valley Healthcare is the only post-acute provider, not only in Athol, but in the surrounding market with this level of accreditation.

Another pillar of accreditation that CARF takes very seriously is patient and resident choice. Michael Kachadoorian, Quabbin Valley’s Marketing Director, said “when people have an unexpected medical event, and are faced with many decisions, maintaining choice and dignity is of paramount importance. In a healthcare environment where patient’s choices are becoming more and restricted, Quabbin Valley makes sure that choice and dignity is not only a concept, but an actual practice. It is QVHC’s goal to help each person maintain their ability to make choices about their care and to maintain high levels of independence. People can be sure that Quabbin Valley is focused on them and their outcome, and we respect the rights and individuality of our residents and patients.”

Quabbin Valley Healthcare has been providing the best post-acute care in Athol for over 55 years. The facility is the only one in Athol with its own staff of physical, occupational, and speech therapists. It also offers the area’s most comprehensive services such as pulmonary and respiratory therapies, orthopedics, neurological, complex medical care, IV therapies, wound care, cardiac, long-term care, Alzheimer’s care, and the HomeWard Bound program—a short stay, rapid recovery program designed to get patients home, quicker. And now, QVHC offers outpatient rehab therapies to the community. To learn more about QVHC, visit qvhc.com.
